The unintended expat blogger behind FreshCopperTrail

Hello, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. I'm an expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday chores felt more tangled than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was cultural adjustment, doubt, and a lot of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt steady.
Why I Built FreshCopperTrail
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level travel material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical tips drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Gained practical insight from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated only when a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I will continue recording our findings.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
